GEORGIA

Georgia is a small country situated on the crossroad of Europe and Asia. Population of the country with total area of 69 700 square kilometers is 3 720 000 people. It is amazing but on this small land there are 26060 rivers and over 40 protected areas. That is why the vast part of the country is occupied by untouched nature.

Amazing nature and the diversity of this country was the source of inspiration for a lot of writers and poets. Here we have everything that the traveler can only dream about: mountains of eternal snow, mountain lakes, alpine meadows, canyon rivers full of flowers and fruit, palm coasts, natural canyons, ancient caves, mineral waters and sulfur water pools – thus this place is indeed a heaven on Earth!

NATIONAL BOXING FEDERATION OF GEORGIA

National boxing federation of Georgia was founded in 1991. Since then, Georgian boxers successfully competed in various tournaments, As a result we have European and world champions and prize winners. Olympic Games Prize winner (Vladimer Chanturia), participants and winners of different international tournaments. Since 2015, Georgian boxers have won ten gold, thirteen silver and seventeen bronze medals in European championship . National boxing federation of Georgia tightly cooperating with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, with the National Olympic Committee of Georgia, with the national boxing development foundation and international organizations.

BOXING TODAY

Based on the success achieved in boxing during past years, Georgian boxing is becoming increasingly popular. Participation of athletes has increased. From a young age comes generation, which are already successfully boxers in European championships and international tournaments. It should be noted, historical result of Georgian Schoolboys boxing team in European championship in 2018, where we have 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals. During the past several years, about 20 boxing clubs were opened in Georgia. Increasing the supply of boxing clubs with inventory which is equal to international standards.

FEDERATION'S SUCCESS IN THE PAST FEW YEARS

The success of federation is important over the last few years, headed by the president David Tsiklauri.

First in Georgia we held AIBA international category couch courses. Which has not previously been held in Georgian boxing history.
International Tournament Named After David Kvachadze became the "B" category, this year this tournament will be held for the third time. Important changes have also heppened in the international arena.

For us it is also important that our 3-star coach Shalva Dundua was appointed as a member in EUBC Coach Commission. Also AIBA 3- star R & J Zurab Tibua successfully passed exams, after that he became R & J instructor.

One of the most important fact is that the president of Georgian boxing federation David Tsiklauri was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of European boxing federation.

INTERNATIONAL AND REGIONAL TOURNAMENTS WHICH ARE HELD IN GEORGIA

Every year Georgian Boxing Federation organizes International, National and Regional Tournaments, which are held in different cities of Georgia. Every year increases number of different countries, which participate in our tournaments.

Regional Tournaments:

• • “Zurab Sarsania Memorial”
• • “300 Aragveli Memorial”
• • “Aliosha Japharidze Memorial”
• • “Telavi Cup” and etc.

International Tournaments:

• • “International Boxing Tournament Named After David Kvachadze” which is “B” Category is one of the most known International Tournament which is held in Georgia. This year it will be held for the third time. The following countries are taking part in this tournament: Ukraine, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Israel, Belarus, Moldova and also other countries.
• • “Tbilisi Cup” is an International Tournament, which is held in the capital of Georgia. Every year boxers from Armenia, Turkey and Azerbaijan participate in this tournament.
• • “Batumi Cup” – It is an International Tournament which is held in Batumi City. Every year boxing groups from Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Russia are participating. This city is also known as a tourist city.
• • “International Tournament of Akaki Kakauridze Memorial” is traditionally tournament which is hold over the last 7 years. Boxers from different countries are participating in this tournament.
• • “International Tournament Named After Giorgi Kandelaki” – this tournament is held in Gori City and different countries of Europe are participating.

CHAMPIONSHIP

For the first time in history of Georgia, National Boxing Federation of Georgia gained the authority to host European championship in boxing. Boxers from 30 countries will arrive to participate in championship. The number of invited guests and foreign sportsmen are - 450.
The event is supported by Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia and Tbilisi City Hall.
